Pro Tip #1: The Tradition … FREE Skull Session
Location: St. John Arena, 410 Woody Hayes Drive
Time: Begins approximately 3:45 pm
Cost: Free

Skull Session originally served as a final music rehearsal for the band prior to their performance on the field, but has evolved into one of the most anticipated game day traditions at The Ohio State University. The band marches over to St. John two hours and twenty minutes before kickoff and bursts into the arena to the sound of the ramp cadences. After a few short cheers from each section, the band takes their seats to play “Fanfare for a New Era” as the football team arrives. Coach Ryan Day and one of the players each speak briefly to the fans before they depart for the locker rooms. The band then performs a final musical run-through of its pregame and halftime shows, previewing the exciting soundtrack the band will be providing in The ‘Shoe that day. Before exiting St. John, the band strikes up “Across the Field” one more time to hype up the fans as they go to cheer on the Buckeyes. Doors to St. John Arena open four hours prior to kickoff. The event is free, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Location: National Veterans Memorial and Museum, 300 W. Broad Street, Downtown Columbus
Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Transportation: Transportation will be provided to/from the event from ICMA conference hotels beginning at approximately 4:45 pm

Join your friends and colleagues at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum as ICMA welcomes attendees to the 2022 ICMA Annual Conference in Columbus/Franklin County Ohio. Throughout the museum and on the beautiful roof-top, guests will enjoy open bars, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and one of the most spectacular skyline views of Columbus. The museum honors military veterans from all eras and all branches with an emphasis on personal experiences. In addition to the museum’s permanent exhibits, guests will view an international digital display of fellow ICMA members who once served their countries and are now serving their communities. The reception will culminate on the rooftop with a champagne “Toast to Service” in recognition of community, public and military service.

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum takes visitors on a narrative journey telling individual stories and shared experiences of veterans throughout history. The idea of building a veterans' museum originated with the late astronaut and Ohio Senator John Glenn. Construction on the “Veterans Memorial Museum” began in 2015, and in June 2018, an act of Congress designated the unopened museum as the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. The NVMM is the first national museum to receive this distinction without first opening its doors to the public. By the time the NVMM opened in October 2018, Architectural Digest had already hailed it as one of the most anticipated buildings of 2018.
